The past six months have been quit out of the ordinary. Many of you may not know, but our Executive Director retired. We all want to wish Joe McCullough the very best in his retirement and appreciate all he did for our Association in the past six years.
With this being a Legislative year our search for an Executive Director has been very difficult, consequently we have chosen to go in a different direction. We have hired an Association Coordinator, a bookkeeper and a web master. These changes have required that we change address and phone numbers. As I mention above, 2019 is a legislative year which will start in January of 2019. Our legislative team and committee have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming session. The have met with a number of House of Representative members, along with our lobbyist. This week they are preparing to present before Criminal Jurisprudence Committee’s interim hearing in Austin.
This session will bring new challenges and issues, just like last session. We are asking each of you to come and participate in the efforts of PBT to have a successful legislative session. As you may have read, we and our industry is under attack, again. Just yesterday California Governor, Jerry Brown, signed a bill that would essentially eliminate Cash Bail in California.
I am and we are asking each of you to join PBT and help us fight to keep our industry together and show our opposition that we are on the right side. We are and always will be an essential part of the Criminal Justice System. Please contact our offices or myself to join and help in our fight.
Our annual convention is just around the corner and again it will be held at the Historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio, November 7-9, 2018. We will be offering our continue education class, which if your a paid members that sign up for the class your will not be charged for the class. But you must attend all 8 hrs.
